Calypso by David Sedaris
ISBN: 978-0-316-39238-9
I know everyone is crazy in their own way, but this piece—Sedaris’ writing in particular—really accentuates that fact. Living in a populous city like New York, it’s easy to see the masses as one, but that’s simply not the case. Each individual is on their own unique journey, and each social grouping is on a shared one—and that fact should be relished.
I also really appreciated the “slice of life” style of Calypso. This was clearly unavoidable, since the work is a collection of essays, but having recently binged Kotaro Lives Alone (highly recommend!), it was nice to again experience the pointed attention given to normally–mundane daily life.
